I recently visited beautiful Cape Town and realized again how spoiled for choice you are with options of places to explore with your children.
It got me thinking to the fact that in JHB, we have to be far more conscious of making sure we spend time together as families wherever possible and even more so, making sure we make time to spend time outdoors doing physical activities.
We’ve explored our fair share of beautiful spots in JHB, and I’ve shared them all below. Hope you enjoy exploring! Don’t forget to tag us in any pics of your adventures.
Rosemary Hill Venue – Pretoria
This working farm is an amazing venue to visit, about an hour drive from Joburg, located in Pretoria. If you are looking for a short break, there are beautiful cottages available too for you to book a stay here.
We only a enjoyed a day trip there, but spent the whole day exploring – we ate pizza, sipped on milkshakes, there are pony rides to enjoy and some shopping to do in their farm store. Our children loved the space to run around and in particular, Jaxon had a lot of fun trying out Acrobranch, which is also available on site.
For more information, check out their Instagram Page, it will link you to their website too.
GROUND – Muldersdrift
This spot is located in Muldersdrift area. If you feel like a spot to head to for breakfast, Ground is great. There is a playground area for kids, so you can enjoy your meal, while the kids play.
They recently started offering hiking and the 5km route is kid-friendly (with a few inclines here and there). They also offer gourmet picnics. Hikes and picnics can be booked for Saturdays and Sundays by emailing info@projectground.co.za.
We recently enjoyed a hike here and it’s great to be able to get out into nature for the day. I recommend going along with a few friends, as the kids keep each other entertained along the walk, not noticing how far they are walking (for little ones of course). Families with older children can attempt the extended routes.
Check out their Instagram Page for more information, they regularly share events they are hosting too.
The Herb Farm – Midrand
We visited The Herb Farm early 2020, as part of a school outing, and I couldn’t recommend it more.
There is so much on offer for families to enjoy – from the restaurant and amazing play area for kids, to tours you can book where children learn about gardening, planting herbs and compost, and other crafty activities on offer.
Ganico – Muldersdrift
A gem situated in Muldersdrift, you can visit for a family picnic, attend one of their events that the host or book for a Tiny Explorers Club that they offer. Kids get the opportunity to walk the farm, feed the fish and forage all along the way.
Follow Helloganico on Instagram – you will be able to see when they host events or Tiny Explorer Clubs. You can always contact the owners directly too, to arrange a private event or tour of the farm.
Avalanche – Cedar Square Fourways
If you looking to enjoy some fun close by – head to the Avalanche at Cedar Square. This is endless fun for you and your children to enjoy together, or you can sip on a coffee, while they have some great fun, sliding down the Avalanche on giant tubes.
A great way to spend the afternoon or a morning when the kids are on school holidays.
