SENIOR PREP

GRADES 4-7

The 3 “C’s” are front line and centre for Grades 4 – 7 – Critical Thinking, collaboration and Creativity. OurGrades 4 7 curriculum is cantered on harnessing every child’s critical thinking skills, within classroom environments that allow for flexible seating, collaboration, teamwork and project-based learning.

Our learners are always pushed to do their best, and strong leadership is encouraged.
Children are required to be extremely responsible and take the necessary care for their own learning experience, throughout Grades 4 – 7.

WELCOME TO

THE SENIOR PREP

Our Grade 7 learners write the SAT’s for English, Afrikaans and Mathematics at the end of the academic year.

This is an examination set by external examiners and is written by students in other top private schools across the country. Preparation for this begins at the beginning of the Grade 7 year.

ENCOURAGING CHILDREN TO THINK OUT OF THE BOX

We aim to begin introducing formal assessments much later on in the senior phase, in Grade 6, only when we feel children have developed more fully and are more mature to handle the pressure of these assessments. Project-Based learning and more fun-based activities that encourage children to “think out of the box” and really push their critical thinking skills is far more helpful in ascertaining where kids are in terms of assessment purposes.

Our Grade 4- 7 curriculum and subjects are:

  • English and Afrikaans (Languages of Learning)
  • Mathematics (including Economic and Management Sciences and Technology)
  • Sciences (Social Sciences and Natural Sciences combined)
  • Life Skills/Orientation

Our timetable incorporate
s thematic units of inquiry, movement lessons (Physical Education and Well-being) and Nature Studies. All subjects will include more hands-on learning and application of content.

Friday’s are for creative studies, coding and robotics and occasionally we would like to incorporate more entrepreneurial projects too for application.

DEVELOPING YOUR CHILD AS A WHOLE

Our Senior Classes are separated into “Learning Pods,” combining children of similar age groups (Grades 4 and 5 for example), all dependent on the number of class size. It is our aim to keep class sizes to a minimum of 15 learners in each class.

Our aim in the senior prep is not to always just push our learners to be academically inclined, but to rather be the kind-hearted person, with high value and regard for others. We focus on continuing to develop the child as a WHOLE, ensuring they can continue in life as confident and capable young people.
